Resolute Racing's John Stewart has privately acquired 2023 South African Horse of the Year Princess Calla (SAF), Stewart announced via X on Saturday.

“We have finalized our international deal and I'm so excited to announce that we have acquired 2023 South African Horse of the Year Princess Calla in a private sale,” Stewart of the five-time Group 1 winner. “She is in her final days of quarantine and will be headed to (trainer) Chad Brown to begin training for a run at this year's Breeders' Cup.

"I think this kind of international competition is great for the industry. We are dedicated to bringing the best mares from around the world to Kentucky."

Princess Calla, who was bred by Andreas Jacobs of Maine Chance Farms, is a 6-year-old daughter of 2005 Travers (G1) winner Flower Alley out of the South African mare Princess Royal, by Captain Al.

Princess Calla was campaigned by South African businessman Mario Ferreira and won 12 races, 11 of which where group events, from 27 career starts placed in 13 other events. Her racing career concluded with a victory in the Empress Club Stakes (G1) March 2 at Turffontein.
